Heat Pump Repair in Vancouver, BC

Heat pump throwing an error code, not heating, or not cooling? We’ll diagnose it properly the first time.

A modern heat pump is the most efficient HVAC system you can put in a Vancouver home — when it’s working. When it isn’t, you need a repair company that actually understands inverter systems, refrigerant charge on a heat pump (very different from a straight AC), defrost cycles, and the communication faults that come with modern Mitsubishi, Daikin, Fujitsu, Samsung, Lennox, and Carrier equipment.

That’s the work we do. Western Pacific HVAC is an HPCN-registered, CleanBC-listed, TSBC-licensed Vancouver heat pump contractor, and we repair every brand we install — plus most brands we didn’t.

Call 604-245-9451 — Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

How Heat Pump Repair Works at Western Pacific

  • $250 diagnostic fee covers travel and the first 30 minutes on site. A heat pump diagnosis takes longer than a furnace call — there’s more to check.
  • Written repair quote before we start. You approve the price before any parts get ordered.
  • No after-hours or emergency surcharges. We don’t run after-hours service. Our regular hours, Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, are when our office team and technicians are actually available.
  • Season Saver Members ($389/year, or $289 during the Spring Promo) get the $250 diagnostic waived every visit, plus 15% off repairs.

Common Heat Pump Problems We Repair

  • Heating works but cooling doesn’t (or vice versa) — failed reversing valve, stuck solenoid, control board, or a charge issue showing up on only one mode
  • Heat pump runs but barely heats or cools — low refrigerant from a leak, fouled outdoor coil, failing TXV/EEV, restricted airflow, or compressor inefficiency
  • Outdoor unit iced over and not defrosting — defrost board, defrost sensor, reversing valve, or fan motor failure
  • Heat pump short cycling — pressure switch trip, low charge, control board, or thermostat staging issue
  • Mini-split or VRF showing an error code — every brand has its own code list. We carry the brand reference materials and the manufacturer service tools to read them properly: Mitsubishi, Daikin, Fujitsu, Samsung, Lennox, Carrier, LG, Mr. Cool
  • Loud or vibrating outdoor unit — fan motor bearings, compressor, or mounting/isolation issue
  • Indoor head leaking water — blocked condensate line, slipped pump, or coil freezing from low airflow or low charge
  • Wireless thermostat / wired controller communication faults — interface failure, low-voltage wiring damage, or controller firmware issue
  • Auxiliary/emergency electric heat strips not engaging in cold weather — sequencer, contactor, or thermostat staging problem

If you’re not sure what you’ve got — central ducted heat pump, ductless mini-split, multi-zone, or a hybrid (heat pump plus gas furnace), just call. We service all configurations.

Repair vs. Replace: When Does It Make Sense to Repair?

A heat pump is a bigger investment than a straight AC, so the repair-vs-replace math is different. Here’s what we tell customers:

  • Repair makes sense when the unit is under 10 years old, the failed part is a single component (capacitor, contactor, fan motor, sensor, thermostat, control board), and the repair quote is well under replacement cost.
  • Replace becomes the better answer when the compressor has failed on a 10+ year old system, the indoor or outdoor coil has leaked, or the system uses an obsolete refrigerant (R-22).

If replacement makes more sense, you may qualify for significant CleanBC and Canada Greener Homes rebates on a new heat pump, plus BC Hydro rebates depending on your equipment choice. As an HPCN (Heat Pump Collaborative Network) registered contractor, our installs qualify for those programs — and we walk you through the paperwork.
